East Central Rochdale: A Vision of the Future
Date published: 29/07/2004
Residents of Wardleworth, Hamer, Bellshill, Cloverhall, Mayfield and Town Head are invited to come and see exciting new plans to transform their neighbourhoods, this weekend.
Rochdale Council and Rochdale Development Agency will be unveiling and explaining how approximately £300 million of investment in East Central Rochdale will build hundreds of new homes, refurbish others, clean up the environment and provide new community facilities. Residents will be able to see artists' impressions, models and videos that show how their area will be made more attractive over the next ten years.
The plans are based on a mix of ideas from local people and professionals. And this is the latest in a series of consultation events that give residents a real opportunity to influence the housing, community facilities and services provided in their area.
The event will take place in a marquee on the old Croft Mill site on Belfield Road, opposite KYP. Residents can drop-in from 5.00pm to 7.00 pm on Friday 30 July, from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday 31 July and from 10.00am to 1.00pm on Sunday 1 August.
The plans will turn East Central Rochdale into an area where more people want to move to and settle, and will improve the image of the whole borough.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has already awarded East Central Rochdale £5.7 million of Housing Market Renewal Funding to start this mammoth regeneration project (April 2004 - March 2006). Other public money, private sector investment and future housing market renewal funding bids will pay for the rest.
The building work will be complemented by initiatives that address other important factors that influence housing markets such as crime, anti-social behaviour, the condition of private housing and community cohesion.
East Central Rochdale is one of the first of many neighbourhoods in the borough that will benefit from Housing Market Renewal Funding. For this reason, everyone is welcome to come and find out how huge levels of public and private investment can transform a neighbourhood.
