Highways Agency Advises Drivers to Take Care on Flooded Roads
Date published: 11/08/2004
With predictions of continued severe weather, flooding may affect motorways and major roads in different parts of the country and the Highways Agency has advised drivers to take extra care.
There are no warnings in place for Rochdale and the surrounding areas at the moment but throughout the country the Agency is monitoring water levels and working with the police where road lanes or carriageways have to be closed for safety reasons.
The Agency has offered the following advice to motorists:
- Heavy rain and spray results in reducing visibility.
- Drive slowly through flood water and test your brakes before you continue driving at higher speed.
The Highways Agency advises drivers to check for up-to-date information on weather and road conditions before they set off.
