Hollingworth Lake Country Park Summer Special 2004

Date published: 16/08/2004

The 200th Birthday of Hollingworth Lake was a day to be remembered. Rochdale Countryside service hosted a day of fun and celebrations at the Lakebank and Visitors Centre on Sunday 15 August. The sunny weather ensured a great turnout for the day’s festivities, which boasted a range of different workshops and activities and contributed to the fun-filled atmosphere.

Talented artist Paul Hoggard impressed the crowds with his amazing realistic sand sculptures. His previous work includes sand models that have reached 16m high, and with 13 years of experience he is a fine exponent of his art. The workshop allowed people to try their hand at sculpturing, but with varying degrees of success!

Eco Arts presented some intriguing pieces of work, using only sticks and twigs to create attractive sculptures of Willows, as well as some impressive models of the other animals on show.

Alongside the arts and crafts available at the Visitors Centre there was also an opportunity to travel back in time and sample a taste of Victorian culture, with families having their photograph taken in traditional Victorian clothing.

People of all ages also gathered around to watch a hilarious show: the classic Punch and Judy. The adults entertained and excited just as much as the children!

The Full Moon Performers provided more entertainment with a wonderful circus show, including a treat with song and dance using various musical instruments. This was the highlight of the day for many of the children present.
