Heywood Carnival & Charities Fete

Date published: 06/08/2004

Who said summer was over? Heywood Carnival and the Charities Fete on Sunday 5 September provided two fun, exciting and worthwhile events timed perfectly to coincide with the pleasant sunshine!

The carnival began at Sefton Street at 1.00pm, and marched down into the centre of Heywood into Queens Park. Rochdale Borough Youth Brass band fronted the parade, followed by interesting displays from Zehara’s Belly Dancers, the Shawforth Drum Majorettes, and the Four Seasons trolley display brought to us from Darnhill festival.

It was pleasant to see involvement from local churches also present at the carnival, such as Heywood Christian Spiritualist Church and St Luke’s church.

Children were amused and entertained by Circus Zaperelli, standing out in the crowd with colourful outfits and large stilts, as they managed to make the whole journey of the carnival into Queens Park.

Once the parade had settled into the park, we were welcomed into Heywood Charities Fete. The park consisted of much entertainment such as circus clowns, a large fairground, plus many raffles, tombolas and lucky dips. The people of Heywood gave generously to important charities such as Cancer Research UK and the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

The Carnival and Fete provided a fun-packed day out that was thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated.
