Rochdale Man of the year 2004
Date published: 17/11/2004
On Friday 12th November, the gentlemen of the ‘Men of Rochdale’ Committee convened at Springhill Hospice to decide who should be awarded the title of 2004 ‘Rochdale Man of the Year’. The Committee meets annually to analyse the nominations that have come in from the general public in order to find the man who will carry the title for the next twelve months.
The criteria used by the selection committee is that the nominees must live or work in Rochdale, have not already received a Royal award and that they should be an‘unsung’ hero having given of their time and efforts to improve their community.
Chairman of the Committee, Councillor Robert Clegg, said, “Choosing who will receive the ‘Man of the Year’ award is always a hard decision to make, because all of the nominees deserve recognition, but we have to trim the list down to one man. We managed to compile a short-list and from that we found our man.”
Nominees for this year’s award, in alphabetical order, are as follows:
Louis Blank
Stuart Carmichael
Steve Cohen
Tony Cox
Frank Cryer
Ken Davies
Fred Farnworth
Colin Fielding
David Grime
John Groves
Jack Heaton
Brian Hodgkinson
David Kelly
Ken Lewis
Michael Maitland
Eddie Melvin
Mohammad Naeem
Phil Roberts
Colin Robinson
Trevor Robinson
Warren Schofield
Ian Simpson
Toddy Snape
Kevin Taylor
Garry Whitworth
