St. Michael’s, Bamford - best in UK

Date published: 02/12/2004

Pupils at St. Michael’s CE Primary School, Bamford, are jubilant at their recent Key Stage 2 SAT exam results, with grades once again above the rest of the UK. All pupils that sat the exam achieved 100% in English, Maths and Science. The Science pupils gained 100% at level 5; the typical score of a high school pupil.

The SAT’s results of 2004 illustrate the superb efforts of children and staff at St. Michael’s, not just last year, but from the moment the children entered school. Seven years of dedication from the whole school family has made the school known nationwide for outstanding grades.

New Head Mistress, Mrs Gillian Rhodes, is proud to teach at St. Michael's. “I have only been at the school since September, so the credit for these amazing results must go to the previous head teacher, Mrs. Christine Jayes. The pupils have gained 100% for that past 6 or 7 years now, and now we have been voted the best in the UK.”

The school’s results were achieved through a meticulously planned programme of practical science, detailed study of the uses and applications of scientific skills and principles and the development of children’s abilities to think independently and to analyse information.

St. Michael’s is a Church of England school and its ethos is securely rooted in Christian principles of service, honesty and care for others and for the world we live in. Children are taught to understand and respect the views and beliefs of other people and the school has a long tradition of community involvement. The attendance record and behaviour of the children are exemplary. Links between the school, home and church are strong and the vision for the future of the school is to further strengthen this partnership.

The whole school community is immensely proud of the achievements of all its pupils and recognises the success of the Year 6 class of 2004. Their level of attainment has given them an outstanding foundation to their education.
