Do You Still Have an Old Christmas Tree Lying in the Garden?

Date published: 21/01/2005

Recycling your Christmas tree in Rochdale borough this year could send a disadvantaged family on the holiday of a lifetime. The deadline for recycling the trees is Sunday 23 January, and as of Thursday 20 January the total collected was 1374 trees. Do you still have an old tree lying in the garden?

Rochdale Council has teamed up with Airtours and The Wishes & Dreams Trust to give one lucky local family the holiday. Airtours are backing this year’s Christmas Tree recycling scheme.

If local people recycle more than 500 Christmas trees, Airtours have offered to donate a holiday to the Canary Islands; if over 1500 Christmas trees are recycled then the holiday will be upgraded to a fantastic Disneyland Florida trip.

Christmas trees can be recycled at any of 15 sites across the borough:

  • Howarth Green, Halifax Road, Smallbridge
  • Canal Street, Littleborough
  • Milnrow Memorial Park
  • All In One Garden Centre, Castleton
  • Cronkeyshaw Common
  • Balderstone Park
  • Springfield Park Car Park
  • Norden Recreation Ground
  • Opposite Shopping Precinct Norden Road, Bamford
  • Back O'th Moss, Heywood

Rochdale Council will chip and compost all the trees for use in parks and open spaces across the borough. Also, for every recycled tree, Pennine Edge Forest will plant a tree in the borough.
