Residents angry that bins 'haven’t been emptied'

Residents living at Pembroke Court, off Whitworth Road, are angry that their bins have been left to overflow with rubbish.

Residents say that the bins have only been emptied "twice in three months" and this is causing rats.

One resident said: “People at Pembroke have contacted the local council and environmental health and still nothing. There are rats and it's pathetic. Nothing has being done about it.”

The communal bins have been photographed by residents overflowing with rubbish with some rubbish stacked up in piles.

As well as being reported to Rochdale Council, it is understand that the residents have also contacted Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk about the problem.

A Rochdale Borough Council spokesman said: “The bins on Pembroke Court have been missed since New Year’s Eve and we apologise for not emptying them on time. The bins have now been emptied and collections in the area are being monitored to ensure this does not happen again. Recycling officers will also be visiting the area to engage with residents about recycling their waste using the recycling bin provided.”
