Up to £10,000 is to be made available to help fund a special celebration for this year’s Armed Forces Day, it has been revealed.

Funding is available to anyone who wants to host an event - from town-wide parades and local fetes, to smaller neighbourhood get-togethers.

Organisers can bid for up to £10,000 to help make their event, large or small, a success.

Rochdale Borough Council is planning to take part in the celebrations on Saturday 25 June.

Councillor Alan McCarthy, Rochdale Borough Council’s lead member for the armed forces, said: “The council will be marking Armed Forces Day and other events this year because we have a deep respect for the contribution that members of the armed forces make to our communities.

"We are proud of our track record in supporting the armed forces community and grateful for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf.”

Application must be submitted by 25 March 2016.
