Borough's getting cleaner - and here's why
Date published: 12 May 2005
Extra investment in Street Services - which includes street cleaning, emptying litter bins, tackling fly tipping, grass cutting, removing graffiti and controlling weeds - is leading to a better environment across Rochdale borough.
Surveys across the borough have shown that local people feel that their environment is getting better. There are now fewer complaints about litter and fly tipping problems, and the service's response when incidents are reported has got better.
However, Rochdale Council is aware of the need to continue enforcing and educating the public to look after their environment. Lead Member for Environment & Sustainability, Councillor Ashley Dearnley said, "There is no excuse for dropping litter, with hundreds of bins installed in town centres and elsewhere."
The improvement is about more than just creating a tidy image. We are not just targeting town centres, but local neighbourhoods and countryside areas. Each township has its own dedicated team, responding to local situations."
"We have improved the way we keep the borough clean, but we do rely on local
people to dispose of rubbish responsibly."
