Simon Danczuk says thanks for marathon support

Simon Danczuk thanked Rochdale residents for their support as he crossed the line to finish the 2016 London Marathon.

The MP made his marathon debut on Sunday, completing the 26 mile route in 4 hours and 49 minutes and raising hundreds of pounds for local homelessness charity Petrus.

Mr Danczuk was one of eight MPs taking part in the 36th London Marathon, finishing sixth overall in the league table of Parliamentary runners.

He said: “I won’t have bragging rights in the House of Commons but I am certainly delighted with my time and with all the money we have raised for Petrus Community.

“I could not have done this without the support of the people of Rochdale. Thank you all for all the words of encouragement and all of the generous donations which helped me keep going.

“I won’t be rushing to sign up for another marathon any time soon but I am always looking to support local charities in any way I can.”
