Getting the right treatment over the bank holiday weekend

There will be changes to opening times for local healthcare services over the bank holiday, including closures on Monday 2 May.

For protection against illness, people are asked to stock up on vital medicines and also check their local pharmacies’ opening times.

Some local GP appointments will be available, at four ‘extended hours hubs’ across the borough, over the bank holiday weekend and patients can book by contacting the Central Booking Service on 0161 763 8292.

Dr Chris Duffy, local GP and Chairman of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale CCG, said: "If your GP practice is closed, there are many ways you can receive treatment, depending on your symptoms, such as self-care and expert opinions from pharmacies, online and telephone advice, and access to GP appointments 7 days a week.”

Pharmacy
Pharmacists are qualified experts in the use of medicines, and can give advice on a range of common symptoms, medicines, healthy living and self-care. Pharmacists may be able to help people with skin conditions, coughs, colds, minor cuts and bruises and much more.

Walk-in centre
Walk-in services can offer assessment and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries which are not serious enough to require a visit to A&E. No appointment needed.

Middleton Health Centre, Middleton Shopping Centre, M24 4EL (0161 655 7434): Open 8am-8pm Monday and 8am-6pm Saturdays and Sundays

Bury Urgent Treatment Centre, Moorgate Primary Care Centre, 22 Derby Way, BL9 0NJ: Open 8am-10pm, seven days a week (If you need treating today, this service is open every day from 8am until 10pm(Doctors are on site until 8pm), no appointment needed. The service is ideal when you are suffering from an ailment, illness or injury that needs assessing quickly, but isn’t serious enough to require a visit to A&E).

Oldham NHS Walk-in Centre, Integrated Care Centre, New Radcliffe Street, OL1 1NL: Open 8am-8pm, seven days a week.
