Burglars target woman’s home in Castleton

Date published: 04 May 2016

Police are investigating after burglars broke into a woman’s home early this morning (Wednesday 4 May) in Castleton.

Officers were called to Heywood Road at 5.30am after calls that burglars had broken and entered, but having been disturbed had made off with just the woman’s handbag.

The burglary comes as one of many which have taken place in the Castleton village since the start of the year, including an allotment on Heywood Road, Chi Chi Hair and Beauty Salon, The Old Post Office Ale House and other domestic properties.

Local councillor Billy Sheerin described the burglaries as a “crime wave in our village” and has called on the police to act as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers were called at 5.30am to an address on Heywood Road, Castleton.

"There are no descriptions of any offenders and no arrests have been made.

"If anyone has information about the incident, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
