Donations from Re-Use Littleborough arrive safely in Tanzania

Date published: 16 May 2016

Eight tons of life changing donations collected by Re-Use Littleborough have been delivered to a baby home in Tanzania.

Nappies, blankets sewing machines and even wheelchairs were delivered to Forever Angels Baby Home in Mwanza, home to dozens of sick and orphaned children in desperate need of care.

The container was taken to the freight terminal in Manchester and loaded onto a train bound for Felixstowe, where it was boarded on a ship for Mombassa, before going through customs and security checks. Finally, the donations arrived at the home late last month (April), and the children took a special ‘thank you photo’ to be send back to Re-Use Littleborough.

Re-Use Littleborough was set up by Littleborough resident Michael Bamford, he said: "The shop was loaned to Re-Use Littleborough by RBH and was handed back, although the idea of re-using will continue.”

He added: “This baby home is in the middle of a place where a child or a pregnancy can be a death sentence. There are some tragic cases where children are found abandoned early on because the man has gone and the woman can’t cope alone.

“HIV is also a problem here, and there is a large amount of people who need extra care. Being able to donate these things to the children doesn’t solve everything, but it does lend a helping hand.”

Amy Hathaway‎, from Forever Angels Baby Home, said: "Thank you so much to Michael Bamford for making this happen and thank you to everyone who has supported us with donations, we are just overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness.”
