Liz McInnes MP gets running shoes on for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 17 May 2016

Heywood and Middleton MP Liz McInnes is getting her running shoes on next weekend to raise money for the Springhill Hospice.

Almost £350 has already been raised from generous donations to the MP, who has been taking on the Manchester 10k since 2009, and hopes to get a record time at this year’s event.

She raised £500 at last year’s run for the Angel Project in Langley, Middleton.

In an interview with Rochdale Online, Ms McInnes said: “I'm not a natural runner by any means but the 10k is a great way to raise money for charity, and it's a manageable distance which most reasonably fit people can manage; not as daunting as a marathon or even a half-marathon.”

“I'm really looking forward to the day and am hoping for good weather.

"Thank you to everyone for my donations for this fantastic cause.”

She added: “It's a great event to take part in with the added bonus of helping a local charity. This year I've chosen Springhill Hospice in Rochdale which gives specialist palliative care to patients and their families from diagnosis to end of life.

“An amazing 70% of their running costs come from fundraising through the local community so I'm hoping that you'll dig deep and make a donation to help keep this fantastic local facility going.”
