Bob Chadwick raises £50,000 for the NSPCC

Date published: 25 May 2016

Volunteer Bob Chadwick has worked tirelessly to raise a total of £50,000 for the NSPCC.

Bob, from Littleborough, is known to the Rochdale Branch for his efforts in fundraising at concerts, race nights, and the annual Ascot Ladies’ Day at Nutters, along with trips across the globe to complete daring tasks such as climbing the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador.

Thousands of pounds was also raised through the Rochdale Rotary Club, where Bob was the President between 2014 and 2015.

The 54-year-old began volunteering for the NSPCC in 2002 after being inspired by his wife, Merrilyn, a long-term supporter of the charity, who is currently President of the NSPCC Rochdale Branch.

Major fundraising projects include over £5,000 raised in a trek to Machu Picchu in 2011, £6,000 for a climb up the Cotopaxi volcano in 2013, and a Himalayan trek up to a height of 6,000 metres in 2015 raising another £6,000.

On 2 July, Bob and Merrilyn will be taking part in the Manchester Colour Run and in September 2017, Bob will be trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp.

Deborah Sefton, NSPCC Community Fund-Raising Manager for Greater Manchester, said: “Volunteering is the ethos upon which the NSPCC was established, and we could not reach as many children as we do without the commitment and enthusiasm of people like Bob.

“The money that Bob, and the other volunteers at our Rochdale Branch, have raised during their involvement with the NSPCC has helped thousands of children who had nowhere else to turn.

“Bob gives 110% at all times to support the life-changing work that we do.”

Bob commented: “Being involved with the NSPCC has opened up a whole new world for me. However, I quickly learned that no matter how difficult I find my treks, it is nothing compared to the problems faced daily by the young people who need the help of the NSPCC.”
