Wellbeing Cafe: Financial trouble leads to charity cafe closing down

Date published: 26 May 2016

The Wellbeing Cafe, which serves as a social hub for elderly people in Littleborough, is to shut down.

Age UK Metro Rochdale, which runs the cafe, has confirmed that it will close within weeks.

Age UK Metro Rochdale took the decision to close the café after the main base in Rochdale town centre suffered significant flood damage and caused financial difficulties.

Myrtle Lacey, Interim Support Manager at Age UK Metro Rochdale said: “It is with great sadness that Age UK Metro Rochdale will have to close its Wellbeing Café in Littleborough in the next few weeks.

“Age UK Metro Rochdale has faced significant financial challenges in recent years, suffering serious damage to our premises in South Parade in the Boxing Day floods and operating in a difficult financial climate, and therefore is no longer able to continue running this café for older people locally.

“We know that this café has made a real difference to older people living in Littleborough and would like to thank our customers and staff who have made the café so much more than just a place to have a cup of tea.

“If older people and their friends and family in the local area want to know about alternative services run by Age UK Metro Rochdale they can contact us on 01706 712515.”
