Rochdale residents invited to have their say on public transport
Date published: 29 September 2005
Rochdale residents are being invited to meet transport bosses and give their views on public transport services in Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority is holding a Local Transport Public Forum at 2pm on Friday 7 October in the Reception Room at Rochdale Town Hall. The Authority hopes the forum will encourage members of the public to come and discuss how the local transport network can be developed and improved.
Councillor Allen Brett, Vice Chair and Rochdale spokesperson for the Authority, said: "The Authority is committed to ensuring that the people of Rochdale have a say in creating the best possible public transport system and the forum is a great place to discuss a whole range of issues relating to public transport.
"We want to listen and learn and this is a real opportunity for public transport users to meet the people responsible for planning and providing their local services and discuss any concerns or ideas they might have.
"This Autumn is a particularly important time as we will be finalising transport schemes for the coming few years before presenting them to the government in our Local Transport Plan. It really is a key time for consultation and listening to the people."
Earlier, at 1.15pm, local transport operators will be holding a surgery. Passengers will be able to talk about individual service matters with the relevant operator on a one-to-one basis and discuss any problems encountered or make suggestions for improvement.
At the main forum, the Authority will give an update on their key activities and new initiatives in Rochdale and throughout Greater Manchester. This will be followed by a formal discussion with the Authority and the Highways Authority, where people can discuss any public transport issues of concern to them.
