Chloe Cockton died and four others injured in collision

Chloe Cockton died and four others were injured after a a Renault Clio collided with a pedestrian barrier on Bury Road, Rochdale.

Emergency services attended at about 2.20am on Sunday (24 July 2016) and Chloe, 16, from Rochdale, was taken to hospital where she died.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man, remains in hospital where he is being treated for a serious head injury. Two girls aged 17 and a boy aged 16, were also in the car and are being treated in hospital for their injuries.

Bury Road was closed but has since reopened.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Police believe a black Hackney cab was present at the scene and are appealing to the driver to come forward to assist with enquiries.

PC Neil Pennington from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This has been a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of Chloe at this distressing time.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been at the scene, particularly the driver of the black cab, or anyone who saw the Renault Clio moments before the collision to come forward.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision to contact police as soon as possible on 0161 856 4745, 101, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
