Child sex charges against John Abbas Ghulam

Rochdale man John Abbas Ghulam, who has been living in Germany, is in British custody after being charged with child sex offences.

The 34-year-old, who was living in Berlin, was arrested on arrival at Gatwick Airport as part of Greater Manchester Police’s Operation Doublet - an investigation into child sex grooming in Rochdale.

The charges against him include one count of rape of a girl aged 13 to 15, one count of rape of a girl aged 16 or over, and one count of sexual activity with a child. All offences are believed to have taken place between 2007 and 2009.

He was arrested on Friday 22 July and has been remanded in custody until the next hearing, at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, on Friday 19 August.
