Piles of 'pub rubbish' dumped in Whitworth beauty spot

Date published: 18 August 2016

Piles of dumped garbage containing beer mats, glasses and pub-related materials have been dumped in a Whitworth beauty spot, causing uproar among local residents.

Rossendale Council acted quickly to send officers to the site, on Landgate. Council officers have been praised for visiting the site on the same day and taking steps to get the items removed.

Local resident Louise Kirk-Turner said: “We walk up Landgate about five times a week and we were really cross to see yet again fly tipping.

“This time it's building rubble and clearly from a pub. Ruining a beautiful spot because they are too bone idle to go to the tip or pay for a skip.

“Anyone having work done should make sure your builder has the proper permits for you to see so you know your rubble and rubbish is being got rid of properly.”

A spokesperson for Rossendale Council said: “We were made aware of this issue and immediately sent out team over there to assess the issue.

“A clean up of the area is being made.”
