Bikers from across the borough got on their bikes for an emotional Lee Rigby memorial ride.

The ride, between Bowlee, Middleton, and Mayfield Sports Centre in Castleton, was followed by an afternoon bike show and fundraising.

The event, in memory of murdered soldier Lee Rigby, was also in support of SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity, formerly known as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association), which is a UK charity that provides lifelong support to serving men, women and veterans from the British Armed Forces.

Biker and fundraiser Gavin Vitler said: “It’s been a brilliant day in the sense that so many people have got on the bikes and come to help raise funds in memory of Lee Rigby.

“The weather hasn’t been in our favour, but I think we are doing alright. We’ll wait and see how much money has been raised.”

He added: “Thanks to everyone who came over today. Lee Rigby’s mum is here and I think it means a lot to her.”
