Date published: 23 August 2016

The trial of a man accused of murdering Jalal Uddin, a local religious leader, began at Manchester Crown Court on Monday (22 August).

Mohammed Hussain Syeedy, 21, of Ramsey Street, Rochdale, denies the murder of Mr Uddin, who died on 18 February this year.

A panel of 12 jurors will be selected on Tuesday (23 August) when the trial, which judge Sir David Maddison expects to last between three and four weeks, will continue.

Mr Uddin was found with head injuries on a children’s playground near South Street in Wardleworth, Rochdale and died a short time later after he was taken to hospital.

Mr Syeedy also denies conspiring with others about murdering Mr Uddin between 1 August 2015 and 19 February this year.
