Council recruiting another spin doctor on up to £30k a year

Date published: 22 September 2016

Rochdale Borough Council is advertising for another 'Communications Officer' with a salary of up to £30,480 per annum.

The advert says the Council 'needs' an experienced communicator to... help them share their good news. The recruit will join a number of others in the Council's spin department working on 'digital engagement, events, writing content for social media channels, developing marketing strategies', all under the supervision of the Council's highly paid Head of Communications.

Rochdale Online reported just a fortnight ago that the Council is also currently recruiting an 'Assistant Director of Information, Customers and Communities' on a salary of between £64,028 and £74,267 per year.

The news is sure to infuriate council front-line staff who are facing losing their jobs, along with those who keep their jobs who are being 'asked' by the Council to take a further two days unpaid leave.

Residents who will be hit with cuts to services being proposed by the Council will also be asking whether it is really necessary for the Council to be paying for people to sit and pen the Council's agenda rather than paying front line workers to provide essential services.
