Elderly woman assaulted in Castleton

Date published: 22 September 2016

A 73-year-old woman was attacked and punched when she asked a man who was urinating against her home in Castleton what he was doing.

The elderly victim had returned from walking her dog to her home on Roylelands, Castleton, some time between 8.15pm and 8.25pm on Saturday 10 September 2016.

The man grabbed her arm, threw her to the ground and punched her in the face before fleeing the scene.

The woman suffered bruising around her eyes, nose and mouth as well as cuts and swelling to her face and right arm.

The man is described as white, in his early 30s, 5ft 10in, of slim build with short dark hair, clean shaven and wearing a blue t-shirt and dark jeans.

An investigation has been launched and enquiries to trace the man are ongoing.

PC Michelle Farmer, of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This was a sickening and unprovoked attack on an elderly woman that has left her shaken and anxious about going out. It is fortunate that she was not seriously injured.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have seen anything that can help find this man, to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
