Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run

Date published: 25 September 2016

The Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run returned for its second year on Sunday (25 September) and the runners were blessed with favourable weather.

All three races set off from Rochdale Town Hall on traffic-free courses.

The half marathon route went along Entwisle Road, before heading towards Smithy Bridge down the canal tow path. Close to the Waterside Restaurant, the runners left the tow path and headed along Hollingworth Road towards the Lake. The route followed the edge of Hollingworth Lake and onto Rakewood Road before turning round and then round the back of the lake to the Beach. The runners rejoined the canal tow path at Smithy Bridge for the three miles before leaving the tow path at Waithlands Road and following a road course back to Entwisle Road and Rochdale Town Hall.

Winner of the Half Marathon was: Men - Rob James and Clive Fitzpatrick both recorded a time of 01:17:19; Women - Hannah Oldroyd in a time of 01:25:22.

Commenting on the race, Ian said: "It was a good race. Cool at the start but warmed up nicely when the sun came out.

"I was delighted to come first in the Seniors Men Over 55."

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk finished in 02:10:56, raising £435 for The Growth Project, a mental health charity in Rochdale.

The 10K runners headed up Newgate before returning and following the half marathon route along Entwisle Road onto Belfield Lane and then Milnrow Road. From there the runners turned onto Grafton Street and Crawford Street towards the canal tow path. Along the canal tow path to Waithlands Road where it returned to the out route back to Rochdale Town Hall.
