GMFRS received 150 emergency calls over 24 hours

GMFRS received 150 emergency calls over 24 hours between 8am on Sunday (25 September) and Monday.

Local incidents

Garage fire in Rochdale: GMFRS were called to Kingsway, Rochdale where there was a fire in an outbuilding. The fire involved rubbish in a domestic garage and firefighters from Rochdale and Oldham used a hose reel and were at the scene for 15 minutes.

Water rescue in Rochdale: GMFRS were called to The Esplanade in Rochdale, and firefighters rescued two youths from the river. The incident was attended by fire engines from Rochdale and Littleborough, together with a water incident unit from Heywood, a technical rescue unit and search and rescue vehicle from Ashton-under-Lyne. Crew used a nine-metre ladder, buoyancy aids and life jackets. North West Ambulance Service also attended. GMFRS staff were at the scene for 15 minutes.

Vehicle, shed and house fire in Middleton: Four fire engines from Chadderton, Heywood and Blackley stations attended a vehicle fire on Millbeck Road, Middleton. The fire had spread to a garden shed and the window frame of a semi-detached property. Firefighters used two hose reels and four breathing apparatus during the two hour incident.
