Council 'savings programme' - have your say

Date published: 01 December 2016

A consultation on another round of proposals to help the Council save a further £38.8 million over the next two years is now under way.

The latest savings proposals were considered by the Council cabinet last week and have now gone forward for a 45-day public consultation, which runs until 5pm on 9 January 2017.

Councillor Allen Brett, cabinet member for finance, said: "Whilst the funding we receive has significantly reduced, the cost and the demand for services has increased, so it gets harder to set a balanced budget, which we have a legal duty to do.

"Balancing the needs of our most vulnerable communities and protecting services that people value means more difficult decisions will have to be made. We need to focus on our priorities and adapt our ways of working to meet this huge financial challenge.

"It can't be business as usual, this is why we must change. We are keen to seek the views of our residents so that we can make decisions that reflect the needs of those who live and work in the borough."
