Heywood firefighters receive award from the Royal Horticultural Society

Date published: 02 December 2016

The hard work of GMFRS firefighters over the summer has been recognised by Royal Horticultural Society judges.

Heywood firefighters made a floral display at the front of the station, highlighting the safety message ‘ban the pan’ to remind people of cooking fires and dangers.

John Carney from Heywood in Bloom hand-delivered the station’s well-earned award to Station Manager Danny Marshall.

SM Marshall said: “Heywood station has supported Heywood in Bloom for a number of years now, which forms part of North West in Bloom.

“The competition sees organisations, including local sheltered housing, join forces and support the event. A route is then formed through the centre of Heywood, where each contestant displays flowers.

“The event is judged by the Royal Horticultural Society, who visits the displays between June and August. This year the Heywood route received a gold award with our station gaining a level four thriving award - which is deemed to be good.”
