Cayden Blake switched the Christmas lights on in Littleborough on Saturday evening, supervised by Mayor Ray Dutton.

10-year-old Cayden won the opportunity to switch on the lights when he won the Peace Poster Competition organised by Littleborough Lions.

Cayden said: “It’s been really good to meet the Mayor and I’m really happy and excited to be turning the Christmas lights on.”

Mayoress Elaine Dutton, Councillor Janet Emsley and even Father Christmas and his elves were all in attendance for the switch on, which was led by Rochdale Online director John Kay.

Children had the opportunity to meet with Father Christmas earlier on in the day.

Prior to the big switch-on, Littleborough Brass Band were playing Christmas carols including 'We Three Kings of Orient Are', 'Away in a Manger', 'Noel' and 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'.

Throughout the day, Littleborough Square was host to music, dancing and Christmas merriment with a ukulele band, Oakenhoof Cloggers, a forty-crowd rock choir and Wardle Junior Blast brass band.

Children also had the chance to go on funfair rides, including a carousel, big wheel and trampoline, whilst various stalls graced the Square.
