Rochdale Police Cadet of the Year Awards
Date published: 20 December 2005
Volunteer police cadets have been rewarded for their efforts at a special ceremony in Rochdale.
Seventeen young people were presented with certificates at the Rochdale Police Cadet of the Year Awards, held at the Rugby Union Club in Bamford on Thursday, 15 December, 2005.
The group, aged 16 to 19, successfully completed a BTEC in modern policing. The 38-week course, which is funded by Rochdale Community Safety Partnership, was first set up in the area last October.
Cadets were tested on first aid, physical fitness and the history of policing. They also gained practical experience by working alongside officers in the community.
Top honours on the night went to Danielle O’Connor who was commended for her academic achievement and enthusiasm throughout the course. Danielle won the coveted title of Rochdale Police Cadet of the Year.
Representatives from Greater Manchester Police attended the event including Chief Superintendent Terry Sweeney, Rochdale’s Divisional Commander, and PC Nick McCarroll, the local Youth Intervention Officer and PC Steve Reed who organised the evening.
Chief Superintendent Sweeney said: “This has been a great opportunity for young people to get a real insight into the variety of work undertaken by the police.
“They have been a fantastic group who worked hard and deserve the success. We are very proud of them.”
PC Emily Warner worked closely with the volunteer police cadets during year. She said: “The cadets are a real inspiration to others and give us hope for the future. They prove anyone can do something positive, if given the right opportunity.
“They are a credit to themselves, their parents and the GMP service.”
