Anne Sharrocks named Nurse of the Year at Pennine Acute Annual Staff Awards

Heart failure specialist nurse Anne Sharrocks, who works at The Royal Oldham Hospital was named Nurse of the Year at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s annual staff awards. 

Receiving her award, Anne said: “I am delighted to win the Nurse or Midwife of the Year Award. I have worked within strong cardiology nursing teams since 1989 alongside doctors, nurses and physiotherapists who have been focussed to deliver compassionate care to cardiac patients.

"The heart failure specialist nurse team working across Pennine Acute Trust enable heart failure patients to access the best evidence based therapies available and I am very proud to have developed the shape of heart failure nursing within the Trust from initial development of the role.

"I would like to thank my nominators; cardiologists, cardiorespiratory technicians, secretaries and outpatient teams who support us and all the heart failure and cardiology specialist nurses and cardiac physiotherapists working across the Pennine Acute Trust who make a difference to the care of cardiology patients every day.”

Rebecca Chadwick, a clinical specialist physiotherapist, won the Allied Health Professional Worker of the Year Award. She was rewarded for leading the introduction and development of a rehabilitation strategy within the critical care units within the Trust.

She said: “It feels like we have progressed a long way in critical care rehabilitation, and this award has confirmed that. I am really proud of what we’ve done and it’s inspired me to keep going to push for more and to keep it progressing, both across the Trust and Greater Manchester.”

The discharge co-ordinator and tracker team at The Royal Oldham Hospital were rewarded for their role in supporting medical wards to facilitate the timely discharge of patients.

Gillian Richardson, discharge co-ordinator said: “As a team of discharge co-ordinators and patient flow trackers, we were both delighted and proud to be awarded Support Team of the Year. We work very closely with other members of the integrated discharge team from social care and Pennine Care to support the wards with discharge planning at The Royal Oldham Hospital.”

The awards for Nurse or Midwife of the Year and Support Team of the Year were sponsored by G4S Facilities Management and Allied Health Professional Worker of the Year was sponsored by Atlas Diagnostics.
