Date published: 16 January 2017

Fire crews, including a specialist unit from Heywood, were called to Denton on Friday (13 January) after reports of a horse stuck in a pond.

Heywood’s Water Incident Unit joined fire crews from Hyde, Ashton and Leigh at the incident in Ross Lave Lane, Denton.

Photos from the scene, taken by Manchester Fire station manager Dave Swallow, show the scale of the operation with at least five fire engines attending. Mr Swallow said the horse was 24-years-old and praised the “great work” of the crews involved.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire said: “At 3.38pm on Friday 13 January crews from Hyde and Heywood, along with four special rescue fire crews from Ashton and Leigh and a boat from Heywood, were called to an animal rescue in Ross Lave Lane, Denton.

“Firefighters were met with a horse stuck in a pond with numerous members of the public attempting to rescue it.

“Crews used large animal rescue gear and lines to rescue the horse safely.”
