Police praised over swift response to Lib Dem HQ break in

Date published: 16 January 2017

Rochdale Lib Dem Leader Councillor Andy Kelly has praised local police for their swift response to break in at the local Lib Dem offices.

Police were alerted to the burglary on Sunday morning around 10.30am. The Lib Dem offices, on Drake Street, were ransacked, as was Andy Kelly's wife Jenny's Fancy Dress Shop. Laptops, cameras and other equipment were taken.

Police have CCTV images of the suspects which they are now looking at.

Councillor Kelly said: “Our offices were raided in the early hours of Sunday morning. The thieves took laptops, cameras, etc. as well as stealing from our tenants, including my wife’s fancy dress shop.

“This was obviously upsetting for all involved, but the police have been ultra-efficient and we are confident that the offenders will be caught.

“I would like to assure residents that our political offices are now open as usual for residents needing help or advice.

“The Rochdale Fancy Dress Shop will also be open as usual from Wednesday at 10am and all our orders will be fulfilled.”

A spokesperson for GMP said: “If anyone saw anyone acting suspicious, please call us on 101 quoting log number 0697 of 15/01/2017.”
