Two more cats poisoned with antifreeze in Littleborough

Date published: 17 January 2017

Two more cats have been poisoned in the Holland Street area of Littleborough since New Year.

At least seven cats have been killed by antifreeze poisoning on Holland Street and nearby Stott Street since August.

Police have issued a warning following the latest two deaths.

GMP Rochdale said: "Another cat has died from anti-freeze poisoning.

"All the incidents have been occurring around the Holland and Stott Street areas of Wardle and this case is no exception.

"The cat owner is inconsolable - he had his cat for 10 years.

"Please be vigilant as it is highly likely the person responsible lives within close proximity of Holland Street and Stott Street.

"If anyone owns a CCTV camera please check your footage for any suspicious activity and report it to 101 without delay."

An RSPCA spokesperson said: "We've been made aware of a number of cat deaths in the Holland Street area of Rochdale over recent weeks and an inspector is investigating further.

"We would be very concerned to hear that someone might be deliberately targeting cats and would urge anyone using any poisonous substances to be careful and follow all precautionary guidance.

"Anyone with any information about these incidents should get in touch with the RSPCA by calling 0300 123 8018."

If you are concerned that your pet may have been poisoned please contact your vet as soon as possible. They will ask for details of when you suspect the poisoning occurred and symptoms. You may be asked to bring in your pet as soon as possible.

Signs that your animal could have been poisoned vary and can include any of the following: depression, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, breathing difficulties and bad breath, twitching or seizures. Different substances can affect animals in different ways. Some symptoms can take days to appear.

People should be careful when using substances to ensure that other animals are not affected (slug pellets and antifreeze in particular) and that substances are properly disposed of, rather than dumping them on a roadside or in a park.
