Police investigating after a child suffered serious head injuries are appealing to the public for information.

She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police are continuing to investigate and are seeking witnesses to an incident they believe happened earlier on Wednesday 11 January.

Officers believe the two-year-old child was in the company of a man in Springfield Park, Rochdale, between 2.30pm and 5.00pm.

It is thought both the man and child arrived and left the park in a beige-coloured Volkswagen Passat.

Detective Chief Inspector Estelle Mathieson, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We have taken some positive steps forward in our investigation into how this young child suffered these injuries.

“However, at this stage it is important we continue to make enquiries and, as part of that process, we need to speak with anyone who thinks they may have seen a man with the child in Springfield Park that afternoon.

“I am appealing to anyone who has any information to please get in touch as soon as possible. Your call could prove vital in helping us secure justice for this child.”

Nisar Ali (24/10/1982), of Brideoak Street, Cheetham Hill, has been charged with section 18 assault. He appeared before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Monday 16 January and has been remanded into custody. He is next due to appear at Manchester Minshull Street Court on Monday 13 February 2017.
