Simon Danczuk and Liz McInnes to get 1.4% pay rise

Date published: 25 February 2017

MPs’ basic pay is being increased by 1.4%, from £74,962 to £76,011 (£1.049), as of 1 April 2017.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), the body responsible for determining MPs' remuneration, says this is in line with its determination on MPs’ pay, published in July 2015, where it committed to adjusting MPs’ pay for the rest of this Parliament at the same rate as changes in public sector earnings published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

Asked to comment, Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk said: "It is right and proper that MPs do not decide pay scales, and that it is left to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority to make those decisions."

Heywood and Middleton MP Liz McInnes said: "This decision has been made by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and I think it is absolutely right that MPs have no say in deciding their own salaries."

MP's pay was increased by £1,000 in 2016 and £7,000 in 2015.
