Drake Street closed as ‘unsafe’ building risks falling into road

Date published: 17 March 2017

Drake Street has been closed due to an empty building at risk of falling into the road on Friday (17 March).

66 Drake Street, across from the Water Street junction, has been deemed ‘unsafe’ due to a large crack in the shop façade. The building will be assessed to see how it can be made safe.

The road has been closed from around the former Rochdale Observer building to around Champness Hall.

The diversion to be signed from the point of closure will be:

  • Right on to Oldham Road
  • Left on to Milnrow Road
  • Left on to Molesworth Street
  • Left on to Water Street
  • With the diversion ends sign located on Water Street opposite the entrance to the bus station

Metrolink trams are not currently servicing the town centre and are terminating at Rochdale Railway Station.
