Neil Dearden died ‘due to natural causes’, coroner rules

Date published: 21 March 2017

A coroner has ruled that local homeless man, Neil Dearden, died due to natural causes.

Mr Dearden, who lived on the streets around Milkstone, died in hospital on 24 September 2016. He was thought to be in his early 40s.

A full post mortem revealed that Mr Dearden, known to many across Rochdale as ‘Gas Man’, had a pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis of his right leg and bronchopneumonia.

Over £6,000 was raised by the local community towards Mr Dearden’s funeral costs, including the service, burial and a headstone. He was buried on 13 October 2016.
