A spokesperson for The Friends of Ashworth Valley said: “As a Friends group we always try to do the right thing working with local authorities, reporting and giving any information we find in the hope action will be taken against littering and fly tipping in the Valley.

“Yesterday, Sunday 26 March, the car bumper along with two headlamps were taken away along with our photographic evidence by local PCSOs who returned it to an address in Middleton.

“On returning the bumper it appears the lady had paid £10 for disposal and appeared 'quite genuine'.

“She is still responsible and up to her to check that the person has a licence for disposal.

“After all our hard work of putting ourselves at risk on a steep slippery embankment over the bridge on School Lane to recover the items, 'quite genuine' does not cut it.

“We are extremely disillusioned and let down, yet again, by the authorities.

“The only way fly tipping will stop in our beautiful valley and the rest of the borough is when action is taken.”

Councillor Neil Emmott, the council’s cabinet member for housing and environment, said “Fly tipping is a consistent issue and is one of our key areas of focus within the borough, this particular incident is under investigation and we are in the early stages of that process.”
