Drake Street closed as ‘unsafe’ building risks falling into road
Work on the unsafe building on Drake Street is taking longer than anticipated due to the fragile nature of the façade.
66 Drake Street, across from the Water Street junction, has been deemed ‘unsafe’ due to a large crack in the shop façade and Drake Street has been closed since Friday 17 March due to the risk of the empty building falling into the road.
A spokesperson for Rochdale Council said: "Considerable care is having to be taken in erection of the structural scaffolding.
"The work will hopefully finish by Tuesday with the road expected to be open from Wednesday morning.
"In the meantime a diversion remains in place and trams will continue to terminate at the railway station."
