North West Mosques and Islamic Centres come to Rochdale for football competition

Date published: 25 July 2017

Mosques and Islamic institutes across the North West came to Rochdale to participate in a football tournament.

The event, organised by Youth Connections (YC) based in Rochdale, brought together youngsters under the age of 15 to actively participate in an enjoyable yet competitive tournament.

At a time when Islamophobia is on the rise, one of the mosque teachers spoke at the start of the tournament and highlighted the importance of good character amongst Muslims.

He said: “As Muslims, we have to be the walking, talking Islam. When we go to school, work or in every part of our life we have to show the real Islam through our good conduct.”

During the event, the young participants and teachers joined in as an act of unity and "showed the compatibility of enjoying oneself and fulfilling religious obligations".

The eventual winners were the ‘Ayyubbids’, a mosque from Shaw, winning in an enthralling final  beating ‘Bilaal Mosque FC’ 1-0.
