Rochdale Online caught up with the UK’s leading tribute to the French electronic duo, Daft Punk before their headline set packed out the Town Hall Square and lit up the sky with colourful lights.

Known only as Chris and Mark, the duo began performing together around six years ago and also perform other tribute acts to bands like The Pet Shop Boys.

One half of the tribute, Mark, from Gloucestershire, was “into dance music and things basically took off from there.”

“We’re hoping for new material soon,” Chris, from Sheffield, laughed.

Performing all Daft Punk’s main hits – including ‘One More Time’, ‘Robot Rock’ and ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger’ – their setlist also includes a twelve-minute remix of some of their lesser known tracks.

Perhaps their best-known track, ‘One More Time’ is Mark’s favourite to perform live, whereas Chris likes the reaction ‘Around the World’ receives.

Complete with Daft Punk’s signature costumes, this is the first time Daft Punk The Tribute have performed in Rochdale but not their first festival, having played Volksfest and being regulars at Tribfest.

Mark added: “We’ll have a good time as long as everyone else has a good time. We’ll see how the crowd get in and build up from there. Just as long as they enjoy themselves. We’ll come back if Rochdale will have us back.”
