Hundreds of people packed Middleton Memorial Gardens to remember those who have given their lives in the service of their country.

Mayoress Christine Duckworth, representing the Mayor of Rochdale, attended along with service veterans, uniformed organisations, local councillors, groups and organisations.

The parade assembled on Long Street and led by Middleton Band passed Middleton Gardens, onto Middleton Way, Manchester Road, to Middleton Memorial Gardens.

The last post sounded followed by a two-minute silence and the Reveille.

The Kohima Epitaph was read:

‘When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today’.

Wreaths were laid by local dignitaries and uniformed organisations.

The families of Lee Rigby and Scott Hetherington attended and laid wreaths.

Following the service, the National Anthem was sung.

The parade returned to Long Street.
