Hundreds of people filled Littleborough town square to remember the men and women who gave their lives to protect our country for the annual Remembrance Sunday service on Sunday (12 November).

The town’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations began with a brass band-led procession from Hare Hill House along Hare Hill Road and Church Street to the Memorial.

The moving Service of Remembrance opened with ‘O God our help in ages past’. The Royal British Legion Exhortation followed and a bugler sounded the Last Post. Standards were dipped for the two-minute silence before being raised after the Reveille.

Prayers followed and poppy wreaths were laid by the Lord Lieutenant, Civic VIP's, representatives of the forces, territorial and reserve forces, ex-Service associations, uniformed public services, uniformed voluntary services cadets and youth organisations, and the Vicar of Littleborough.

The Kohima Epitaph was read by a veteran before the hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save, was sung.

The National Anthem and The Blessing closed the service and the parade returned to Hare Hill Park following the same route.

A wreath was also laid after the main service by local councillors John Hartley, Robert Clegg, Ann Stott, John Blundell and Janet Emsley at Shore Mills Memorial off Shore Road.
