Plans for supported living apartments on Harbour Lane clarified

Date published: 20 November 2017

Partners Foundation, which has submitted plans for 42 supported living apartments on land adjacent to the Ladybarn, off Elizabethan Way in Milnrow, have clarified their plans.

The scheme will provide housing for vulnerable adults aged 21 upwards and has been developed with Rochdale Borough Council’s Adult Care team: the apartments would consist of one three-storey block of 30 apartments and two two-storey blocks of six.

A representative for Partners Foundation said: “We have noted the comments that have resulted from our planning application on Harbour Lane and are very happy to issue the following clarification.

“We chose the site adjoining the former Ladybarn pub for this development because it is situated at the heart of an established residential area which we know well. It was already consented for residential development and offers us the opportunity to create an inclusive development within an established community. The site is level and offers good access to facilities for any of our tenants with limited mobility or who are wheelchair users.

“Our full day consultation exercise, hosted by the Milnrow Bowling Club, gave us an opportunity to fully explain the development and this was greeted with enthusiasm by the large number of attendees.

“One of the key features of this development are the pedestrian rights of way that cross the site and we are taking steps to protect this from overexposure to vehicular traffic. Most of our tenants will not own cars and the development has good underpass access to the local metro station and the towns bus routes.

“We will be installing vehicular access controls to the site which will reduce traffic levels to below those experienced when the site operated as a public house.

“The site will also provide a community hub and café, which we have been informed will be used by local groups, and we hope that the local population make use of this additional facility in their neighbourhood.”
