The Big Fat Secret Santa Appeal - for children living in poverty and care

Date published: 02 December 2017

Rochdale Herald, a satirical website, has launched a 'Big Fat Secret Santa' appeal to buy presents for children living in poverty and care.

The Herald editor said: "These are children who have fled domestic violence with their mothers and are living in women’s refuges, children of families in poverty, homeless children, children in care, children waiting to be adopted and children who are acting as carers for their sick parents."

The Herald, in association with NewsThump, Southend News Network, Angry People in Local Papers, BFNN and Tuckered, wants readers to buy 10,000 presents for such children around the country by Christmas.

Rochdale Council staff charity 'Giving Back' distributed 1,200 gifts to children last Christmas but hundreds still went without.
