There are fewer claimants aged 18-24 than those over the age of 25, according to the latest statistics released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday (13 December).

Claimant Count includes those who are on JSA, or who are searching for work on Universal Credit.

In the Rochdale borough, there has been a 17% decrease in the year on year claimant count in 18-24 year olds, with just a 2% decrease for all age groups.

Separate figures also released show there are 660,000 people now receiving Universal Credit (UC), as the national rollout of the new benefit continues. Research shows that with UC people are moving into work faster and staying in work longer than compared to the old system.
