Drivers urged to compare insurance quotes

Date published: 19 March 2018

Drivers are being urged to compare insurance quotes when renewing their car insurance and not just to accept the automatic renewal from their current insurer.

The advice comes after a Rochdale Online reader was quoted £469 by his current insurers, an increase of £89 on the £380 he paid last year.

Having sought quotes from other insurance companies, he obtained several quotes for less, even than he paid last year, for similar cover, including one reputable company quoting just £319 -  a whopping saving of £150 on the quote from his current insurers.

The reader said: "My circumstances have not changed and hence the increase quoted by my current insurer seemed unreasonable. I suspected it was the usual case of insurers hoping existing customers will just accept automatic renewal. I urge people not to do so. As an existing customer I expect to be rewarded for loyalty, not taken advantage of."
