Concessionary bus travel no longer recorded manually

Date published: 21 March 2018

Bus drivers will no longer be able to manually record journeys made by concessionary bus pass holders from Sunday 1 April.

Concessionary passes should normally be recorded via the smart reader on the ticket machine,

Operators are reimbursed for concessionary travel on a ‘no-better/no-worse’ position.

From 1 April, the calculations will be made based on recordings via the smart card reader and customers using concessionary passes must, therefore, register their journey with a valid pass or pay the full adult fare.

Passengers with concessionary passes are urged to get into the habit of using their passes on the smart reader, and to take action to replace faulty or out-of-date passes as soon as possible.

Councillor Phil Burke, Rochdale Borough Council’s transport spokesperson, said: “I would advise people take on board and adhere to this important information.”

Concessionary pass holders who have an invalid pass or have had problems with it registering should visit any TfGM travel shop, where they can test their card, visit tfgm.com or call 0161 244 1000 for help.
